This was the first time I hemed the kite with 1 inch (2.5cm) wide strips of fabric (black .75 oz ripstop). EG: I cut the main kite skin to exact size without a hem allowance for the first time! However looking at the crystal plan I noticed one edge of your hemming is open! Here is how I hem... hemming strip main kite skin ___________ ___ =============================|=== ^---- sew stright stich here Then I fold the tape pressing it between a edge (rounded dowel end) and a hard surface and sew it with a zigzag.... _______ (_ _____\ ===================|===== | ,------- | `--------' ^._.^-------Zigzag stich Main sail can be cut to the exact shape, no unhemmed edges are left visiable to fry, and the edge is clean (and both sides look the same :-) and the edge is very very unlikly to streach.
